It is a herb or subshrub perennial up to 1.5m tall
Morphology
Elliptic to obovate leaves are up to 12 cm long with narrow stems that are sometimes reddish. Flowers are typically red or pink, but can also be orange, purple or yellow. They are arranged in branched clusters known as panicles.
Medicinal uses
Javanese Ginseng leaves contain calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium and zinc and have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It is also said to be good symptoms of menopause
Distribution
The native range of distribution for this species is in tropical and subtropical America. But this species are easily found in several habitats comprising, moist to dry woodlands and savannas also desert scrub, grasslands, beaches, flats, mounds, slopes, ledges in sand, clay, limestone, sandstone, igneous, often rocky soils and crevices
