Description

Ischnura senegalensis (Tropical Bluetail) is a small and robust damselfly species in family Coenagrionidae. Its hindwing may measure up to 15mm. It has distinctive terminal markings on the abdomen and anal appendage. The inferior anal appendage is longer than its superior anal appendage which is turned downward. Female individual is polymorphic which is it can appear in olive and golden orange forms and also an ‘andromorph’ form like male. Common Bluetail is commonly found in disturbed and open habitats including still and slowly flowing water. It is widespread in the tropics of Asia and Africa (Orr, 2005).
